An important message about the future of the Ancestry World Archives Project.
When we launched the Ancestry World Archives Project in 2009, our vision was to bring the community together to contribute to saving records from around the world. From the initial 12,000 contributors at the time we launched publicly to 2023, there have been over 150,000 contributors from 161 countries who have downloaded the keying tool. We have added 407 databases and millions of records that can be searched for free on Ancestry.

Ancestry is committed to preserving and amplifying at-risk history and powering new discoveries for all through new and exciting technology. To amplify our impact in the community, we have reallocated our resources to focus on these new technologies and have made the difficult decision to discontinue the World Archives Project.
