Adding photos is as simple as pointing and clicking. 

Using the Ancestry app on your phone or tablet, scan up to 20 images at once and upload them to your media gallery, cropping them into individual images. The app automatically de-skews, sharpens, and uploads the images to your media gallery. Each image can be saved, edited, and added to people in your tree.

How to scan photos

Scan images one at a time or as a group (laid out on a tabletop or in a photo album). For the best results, place your photos on a smooth background near a window. Natural light can help you avoid glare. Take the closest possible scan, leaving little space around the photos.

From the Tree Media Gallery   

1. Tap the tree gallery icon in the upper right-hand corner of the app homepage. 
2. Tap the green “+” circle > select Scan Photos.
3. Hold down the shutter for 3 seconds to scan or tap the microphone on your phone and say "Go." If you want to stop mid-scan, tap Done.

From the Person profile page

1. Tap a person in your tree > tap View Profile.
2. Select Gallery > tap the green “+” circle > select Scan Photos.
3. Hold down the shutter for 3 seconds to scan or tap the microphone on your phone and say "Go." If you want to stop mid-scan, tap Done.

From the AncestryStories Add Photo page

1. Tap the option to add a photo to your story
2. Tap the green “+” circle > select Scan Photos.
3. Hold down the shutter for 3 seconds to scan or tap the microphone on your phone and say "Go." If you want to stop mid-scan, tap Done.

Tips

• To improve scan quality, follow any prompts you see.
• If you have problems with movement while scanning, use voice control instead of holding down the shutter. 
• If photos don’t have clear borders, the images may not be cropped correctly.
• In the Tree Gallery, you can tap and delete multiple images at once.
