If you find an error in a historical record or have additional information that could improve searchability, you can add or update information.
Adding or updating information is useful if the typed information on the record page is incorrect or incomplete. This is the best option for:
- Transcription errors (e.g., the document says "Browne" but it was typed into the database as "Browns")
- Name changes, such as with birth or maiden names
- Nicknames and name variations
- Incorrect original records (the person who originally wrote the historical document made a mistake)
Note: When you submit a correction, the original indexed information remains unchanged. Your correction is added as searchable "alternate information", making it easier to find the record without replacing the original data.
