The Memories section on Ancestry helps you preserve and share special family moments. It has tools to:  

  • Create new media.
  • Arrange your media into albums.
  • Scan, upload, and enhance old photos and give them context.
  • Explore historic photos through the lens of your ancestors.

 

Tools in Memories:

Create

    Storytelling

    • Stories: Create and share slideshow stories about people and events in your family tree or on various subjects (like family vacations, famous ancestors, and more) for others in the Ancestry community to see and appreciate. Learn more about Stories in the Ancestry app.
    • Albums: Create albums of your favorite memories.
    • Audio recording: Record or upload audio of yourself and others telling family stories–in your voices–to share with family and preserve for future generations. Learn more about Audio in the Ancestry App.
    • Document: Tell the tale of an ancestor’s life, write a story or upload a story from your computer.

    Collages

    • Photolines: Create and share photo collages showcasing the portraits of 2-4 people in your family tree. Learn more about Photolines.
    • Tree collage: Generate a collage of your family photos. 

    Enhancements

    • Colorize: See black and white photos come to life. Upload or select a black-and-white photo from your gallery to see it colorized. Learn more about Colorizing Black and White Photos
    • Sharpen: Turn blurry faces into crisp portraits. Upload or select a photo from your gallery to see the lines sharpened and a clear image. 
    • Filters: Apply our restore, vivid, or other filters to enhance your photos. Upload or select a photo from your gallery to see the effect of the various filters. 
    • Stickers: Add stickers to your images.  

 

Albums

    • Create albums: Create albums to organize your memories according to people, locations, and more. Albums can be sorted, shared, renamed, or deleted. Album details can be updated or changed anytime. Learn more about Creating and Managing Albums.

 

Preserve

    • Quick tasks: Quickly complete tasks about your media, such as tagging photos or adding dates, locations, and descriptions.
    • Quick start albums: Digitally preserve your family memories. Pick a topic and share your family album.
    • People in your tree: Help future generations remember people in your tree through photos and stories. Upload media to individuals from your family tree.

 

Explore

    • Explore: Explore the times your ancestors lived in. Either choose an individual to learn more about or select a time period and a location to explore.

 

Accessing Memories

From the app:

  1. Open the Ancestry app and sign in
  2. In the bottom-right corner, click Memories.
  3. Select an option to create or access a memory. 


From a browser:

  1. Sign in to Ancestry
  2. From any page on Ancestry, click the Memories tab.
  3. Select an option to create or access a memory.

 

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t I see some features?
Some features of memories are only available in the Ancestry app but are coming soon to the Ancestry website.
