Use notes, stickies, and comments to record facts, stories, tasks, research, or thoughts about people in your family tree.

Who can see your notes, stickies, and comments?

Comments follow your family tree's privacy settings. If your tree is public, comments about deceased people can be seen by anyone who can view the tree. Comments about living people are automatically private. If your tree is private, only people you've invited to the tree can see your comments.

View notes, stickies, and comments

You can find notes, stickies, and comments attached to a person's profile page. Stickies are located in the same section as notes while using a browser.

1. Select Tools from the top right menu.
2. Choose View notes or View comments.
3. Use the side panel tab to change between Notes and Comments.

Stickies are only viewable using a browser and are located on the same tab as Notes.

1. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
2. Choose View/Add comments or View/Add notes. 

You currently can't view all notes, stickies, and comments from everyone in a tree in one place. 

Add, edit, and delete notes, stickies, and comments

• Notes can be viewed by you and anyone who is an Editor for your tree.
  • To add a note, select the Notes tab and start typing. In a browser, notes and edits are saved automatically. In the app, tap the blue checkmark to save your note. 
• Stickies are only visible to you. Stickies are great for tracking tasks, discoveries, and personal research notes.
  • To create a stickie, select + New Stickie, enter a title and start typing. Stickies and edits to stickies are saved automatically. To delete a stickie, select the trash icon.
• Comments are visible according to your family tree's privacy settings.
  • From a browser: Select the Comments tab, enter your comment, and select Comment to post it. To edit or delete your comment, select the three dots next to the comment, then choose Edit or Delete. 
  • From the app: Enter your comment, then tap the blue arrow to post it. To edit your comment, tap the three dots on the right, then tap Edit comment. Make your changes, then tap the blue arrow to post the updated comment. To delete your comment, tap the three dots, select Delete comment, then tap Delete comment again to confirm. 
     

Hide and flag comments

Hide comments: You can hide comments left by others on trees you own. Hiding a comment removes it from your view, but other people with access to your tree can still see it. To hide a comment, select the three dots on the right, then select Hide. You can select Undo immediately after hiding a comment. Once you dismiss the Undo option by selecting the x, the action can’t be reversed.  

Flag comments: You can flag other people's comments on trees you own using a browser. To flag a comment, select the three dots on the right, then select Flag. Select a reason, then follow the on-screen directions.
