This article is for help with the creating trees in the Ancestry app on mobile devices. If you're using a computer or browser (like Safari or Chrome), see Getting Started, Lesson 1: Starting Your Tree.

If you're creating a tree for the first time

  1. Open the Ancestry app and sign in.
  2. If prompted, start a free trial or tap Skip. (If applicable, for Android, tap Ok, got it > Done.)
  3. In the tree that appears, tap Add Father or Add Mother.
  4. Enter their information and tap Add (iOS) or Save (Android).
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other parent.
  6. Above one of your parents, tap Add Grandfather or Add Grandmother
  7. Enter their information and tap Add > Got it.
  8. If you see a hint hint on someone in your tree, tap it. (If not, keep adding people or details until you see a hint.)
  9. Select a hint to view more details.
  10. Look over the information, then click Yes if it's a record for right person, No if it's not, and Maybe if you're unsure. Keep looking through hints until you find one that's accurate, or tap Cancel and Back to return to previous screens.
  11. To access your tree from most pages in the app, tap Tree at the bottom.
