Photos and documents, along with other media, can be saved to your tree from other family trees, including:  

• Other trees you own
• Trees you’ve been invited to
• Public member trees you find
  
  

To save media from another family tree:

1. Open the media item you want to save.
   
   
2. In the details panel, find the Linked to section. 
   If the details panel isn’t visible, select the information icon in the media toolbar to open it.
   
   
3. In the Linked to section, look for + Add person.
   
   
   • If you see + Add person:
     1. Select + Add person.
     2. Choose the tree you want to save the media to.
     3. Enter the name of someone in that tree and select them from the list.
     4. Repeat to link additional people if needed.

   • If you don’t see + Add person:
     1. In the media toolbar, select the download icon to save the file to your device.
     2. Go to your tree, select the person you want to add the file to, and choose Profile.
     3. On their profile, select the Gallery tab.
     4. Select Add media and upload the file.

Saved media appears in your tree’s gallery and in the gallery of the person you chose. This doesn’t change or remove the media in the other tree. 

Repeat these steps for each photo or document you want to save to your tree.

Frequently asked questions

Where will the media appear after I save it?
After saving media from another family tree, it’s added to your tree’s media gallery and to the gallery of the person you selected.
 

Can I choose which person to save the media to?
Yes. When saving media from another family tree, you choose the person in your tree to link or upload it to.
 

Can I add the same media item to more than one person?
Yes. After saving a media item from another family tree, you can link it to additional people. For help, see Linking media to people.

Can I save more than one media item at a time? 
No. Media from other family trees is saved one item at a time. Repeat the steps for each item you want to save.
