Ancestry memberships can be billed through several different companies, so how you update your payment information will depend on who collects your payments. For example, if you subscribed through the Ancestry app, your payments might go through a third party, like your device's app store.

First, find out who bills you, then follow the steps below.

 

Ancestry-billed

From a browser

  1. Go to Account Settings.
  2. In the Payment Information section, select your Payment method.
  3. On the Payment information page, click Edit.
    If you use PayPal, or third-party billing, the "Edit" option won't be available. Instead:
  4. Enter your new payment details and click Update information. Changes may take up to 24 hours to be reflected in your Ancestry account. 

 

From the app

  1. Open the Ancestry app and sign in.
  2. In the top-left corner, tap your Profile.
  3. Under Settings, tap Account (iOS) or Account Settings (Android).
  4. Next to your membership, tap Manage.
  5. In the Payment Information section, select your Payment method and then tap Edit.
    If you use PayPal, or third-party billing, the "Edit" option won't be available. Instead:
  6. Enter your new payment details and tap Update information. Changes may take up to 24 hours to be reflected in your Ancestry account.


Once updated, your new payment details will be used for all future transactions unless changed or updated at checkout.
 
If you received an email asking you to update your payment information, you may also need to restart your membership.

 

Third-party billing

If your Ancestry membership is billed through a third party, like your device’s app store, you’ll need to follow their steps to update your payment information. For help, select your billing provider below:

Why is my new payment method being declined?

Your payment method might be declined because:

  • There’s an error in the information entered, such as the card number, expiration date, or the billing address.
  • A special character (like a period or space) was used.

Once it ends, restart your membership with your preferred payment method directly on Ancestry.
