MyTreeTags are labels that can be attached to people in your tree. Once a tag is attached, you can search your tree for everyone with that tag. There are two types of tags:

• Universal tags: standard tags available to everyone. These tags are for “DNA,” “Life Experience,” “Relationships,” and “Research Status.”
• Custom tags: tags that you create. Custom tags appear only in your tree. They don’t transfer from tree to tree or from account to account.

Adding, detaching, editing, and deleting tags

1. Go to your family tree and click on the person you want to manage tags for. 
2. In the opened card, click More options (the three horizontal dots) and choose Add tag or Edit tags.
3. Choose to add, detach, edit, or delete a tag.
   • To add a tag: Select a tag or click Create a custom tag.
   • To detach a tag: Click or tap a checked tag to deselect it.
   • To edit a tag: To the right of a custom tag, click the three dots and choose Edit tag.
   • To delete a tag: Next to a custom tag, select the three dots and choose Delete tag from tree. Deleting a custom tag deletes that tag from everyone in your tree and cannot be undone.

Searching for people with a tag

1. Go to the family tree.
2. In the toolbar on the left, click the Find button.
3. In the opened side panel, click on Filters.
4. Select the tags you want to use as filters and then click Done. You'll see a list of everyone in the tree with that tag.

Who can see and edit your tags

Only you and the people invited to your tree as editors can attach, detach, create, edit, and delete your tags. People you've invited as contributors and guests can see your tags, but they can’t change them.

If your tree is public, other Ancestry members can see all tags attached to deceased people in your tree. If your tree is private, only you and the people invited to your tree can see your tags.
