Adding a divorce to a family tree
- Add one member of the divorced couple to your tree if they're not already there. If both people are already in the tree, skip to step 5.
- Click on the member of the divorced couple who's already in your tree.
- In the opened card, click More options
(the three horizontal dots), select +Add relative and choose Spouse.
- Enter the spouse's information, change their Relationship to Other, and click Save.
- In your tree, click on either member of the divorced couple.
- In the opened card, click Profile.
- On the Facts tab of their profile page, in the Timeline column, click +Add.
- Click the drop-down menu and select Divorce.
- Enter the date of the divorce and select the date from the drop-down menu.
- Confirm or change the spouse listed.
- If the spouse is correct, click Add.
- If the spouse is incorrect, click Change Spouse, enter their name, select it when it appears, and then click Add.
- The divorce will now be listed on the profile pages of each ex-spouse.
- In the vertical tree view, find one of the ex-spouses, click the horizontal lines (top-left of their photo), and choose which spouse(s) you'd like to see.
Finding divorce records
Go to marriage and divorce records and skip to step 4.

- From any page on Ancestry, click the Search tab and select Card Catalog.
- Under Filters on the left, click Birth, Marriage & Death, then Marriage & Divorce.
- Continue using the filters on the side to narrow down the location and date of the records you want to search.
- From the list of results, choose a collection or database type.
- On the search page, enter information and click Search.
- From your list of search results, click View Record to see a record.
